BIOGRAPHY

Hannah Dakota Fanning was born in Conyers, Georgia (USA) on February 23rd, 1994. Dakota has always stated that she wanted to be an actress from a very early age and recalls stuffing pillows up her jumper and pretending to give birth to little sister Elle, as well as appearing in a theatrical production as a little blue fish and taking it so seriously, despite being only 4 or 5 years old.

In 1999 at the age of five, Dakota was chosen to appear in a nationwide television commercial campaign for Tide dishwashing powder, beating thousands of other girls to the role. She also appeared in commercials for Cox Cable Comm, Georgia Lottery, Stop 'n' Shop and United Auto Workers Union, before beginning to land small parts on popular television shows. In 2000, Dakota appeared in ER, Ally McBeal, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Practice and Spin City.

Dakota's first experience for film making came in 2001 when she filmed a part in a short independent film, Father Xmas. Soon after, she started filming for what was her breakthrough role as 'Lucy Diamond' in the feature film, I Am Sam, also starring Sean Penn and Michelle Pfeiffer. Dakota recieved much praise for her performance in the film, as well as earning several prestigious nominations and awards, including being the youngest person to ever recieve a nomination for an SAG award (she was 8 at the time).

The roles began to flood in after Dakota's amazing performance in I Am Sam, with her following up with large roles in films such as Trapped and in the Steven Spielberg TV mini-series, Taken; all the while earning more and more admiers with her mesmerising performances.

In 2003, Dakota starred alongside Brittany Murphy in Uptown Girls and in The Cat in the Hat alonside Mike Myers which won her fans in younger and teen age groups. Following these in 2004, she starred as 'Pita Ramos' in the harrowing Man on Fire alongside Denzel Washington, delivering an intense, emotional performance that really showcased her talent for many genres of acting. Dakota has also leant her voice to a variety of film projects such as In the Realms of the Unreal, Lilo and Stich 2: Stich Has a Glitch, My Neighbour Totoro and the upcoming Coraline.

In 2005, Dakota appeared in the thriller Hide and Seek with Robert DeNiro and Famke Janssen, Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds and Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story, proving that her popularity certainly has not dimished with age. With several more projects in the works, such as the recently released Charlottes Web and the upcoming Hounddog, it seems that Dakota is set to make a delightfully smooth transition from child star to teen star and beyond.
